Can West Ham be successful again/re-emerge?
I'm fairly new to this forum and sometimes wonder what sort of future West Ham United may have.

The things I understand regarding West Ham United are as follows:-

1) That West Ham United a 1 of the top 4 London clubs. The other 3 are Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham.

2) West Ham United were an established Premiership Club during 1993-2002, and have encountered difficulties since 2003, but Sam Allardyce is experienced at Premiership level and can keep West Ham United established, going into the new stadium in 2016.

3) On the other hand, Manchester City - Similarities to West Ham United in London where both of these have Sky Blue in their club's colours, a 30+ year drought of not winning a major trophy (League Title, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Cup or European Cup) and West Ham United possibly growing as a club when they move from Upton Park to the Olympic Stadium in 2016, where West Ham United would get a possible takeover and turned into a force challenging for trophies?

In 15-20 years time, can West Ham United also realistically grow as a club and other midlands clubs such as Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa re-emerge should either of them get a takeover or progress?

haha !

Well I must be doing something right then :-)

I actually agree with Johnson too about the fact that they have not invested a penny, less than every fan. Hope that does take you over the edge :-)

Exactly!

Maybe I didn't word it correctly, but of all people I was expecting you to agree with me, hence the confusion.

Reemerge? Well if that means win something for the first time in 40 years there is little to no chance.

We have never been successful other than between 64 - 1980 and that was a series of cup runs. Throughout this time we only made the top 10 in consecutive seasons a couple of times and over the 60 years I have followed us we have been in the top 10 in 3 consecutive seasons about twice and half a dozen times for 2 successive seasons.

We are perennial underachievers.

The real question is whether we will ever get to a level where we are not flirting with relegation?

Based on what I see nothing has changed under successive owners or managers even before money took over.

Sullivan and Gold aint doing much to change the playing side. All window dressing with a shiny stadium, slogans about the big time.

Give us a fvcking team/squad we can be proud of.

Nonsense...The latest plan is "PROVEN PREMIERSHIP PLAYERS"

Fair enough but given his old man doesn't seem to have one of those, doubtful his offspring will either.

Re: Can West Ham be successful again/re-emerge?
Johnson - Because age of the chairman isn't an issue for me. Sullivan and Gold could be 30/40/50/, it means fuck all.

Neither does money, except having the privilege to be able to BUY themselves into football.

All I care about is an evident plan that sees us closer to reaching our potential.

Re: Can West Ham be successful again/re-emerge?
Alvin, 2 points that are open for debate........
They aren't too smart when it comes to growing a football club.
Or they are trying to make us more attractive to buyers without spending much money and believe top 10 will suffice and that equates to success for us.

Re: Can West Ham be successful again/re-emerge?
Not under these owners, this season was an opportunity that they and the idiot Bilic have spectacularly fucked up. Seasons of mediocrity to follow until they fuck off.

Re: Can West Ham be successful again/re-emerge?
And? I didn't say you did say it was a good thing, I questioned whether Sully was therefore going to be around for 30 years as handing off to an inexperienced 20/30 year old wasn't wise.

You then started some strange defence of it which prolonged the discussion.

Yes, the one that never stated it was a good thing or that it shouldn't be a concern.

The one where you say he won't leave until is youngest is ready to take over?

The one I responded to which caused this little debate?

Anyone who slags off our owners for being cheap BERKS, that then say they'll sell at the first big offer seem to be forgetting that they need the club to be a success to sell for a huge profit?

Being shit owners but making a killing on the club doesn't stack up otherwise. Can't believe I've had to make that point more than once, let alone on the same fucking thread.

I said I expect it to happen, I didn't say I thought it was a good thing or no-one should be concerned.

My original post was about how Sullivan lacks in ability to be a top chairman?

Johnson 6:58 Thu Mar 23
Re: Can West Ham be successful again/re-emerge?
West Ham are currently in debt to BERKS Inc to the tune of £100m based on the LOANS (not investment or gifts like most genial owners) they have given the club over time.

These loans are set at an undeclared rate of interest which is currently not being paid, although folk now suggest anything between a rate of 7-10%. I've not seen anything about that though.

IF they sold the club, they can take money for their shares, less tax payer sharing, but take 100% of the loan repayment plus this interest.

It's why they have kept the debt at £100m for the last few years, as it suits them to do so.

It should stick in the throat of every West Ham fan when Sullivan gets his CHILD to use said debt, to them, as an excuse for not splashing out on players.

But for some reason it doesn't as foolishly people think the Dave's (sic) are fans like us and doing their best for the club.

They're doing their best for BERKS Inc, that's all they have ever worried about.

I didn't know that. If true, it makes Shorty's claim that Sullivan turned £650M even more laughable.

Do you genuinely believe that?

Think that puts you in the naive lot in my previous post.

"When the bid comes in. They will sell up."

So. Turning down £650 million. Then letting your child go on social media to gloat about. Doesn't look like the workings of a good business man. More like a spivy cunt.

I think they can sell now if they want to, a clause in the deal means that debts can be offset and the taxpayer would not get a penny.
